Una ruta que no entiende de segundos, minutos y horas, que afirma que todo lo que ocurre ahora ya ocurrió mañana y ocurrirá ayer. Que no comprende del sentido del tiempo, que se expande en todas las direcciones y que viaja a millones de Kilómetros/hora.
Dicen que hay una ruta que te acerca las estrellas, te muestra la inmensidad del universo y la pequeñez de nuestros problemas.
Dicen, y solo dicen, que se trata de Calar Alto.
Introducción
En esta entrada os voy a contar todo lo que necesitas saber sobre la visita al Observatorio Astronómico Calar Alto, así como mi experiencia haciendo noche de sesión fotográfica en él. El observatorio astronómico de Calar Alto se encuentra ubicado en Almería, sobre la meseta a más de 2000 metros de altura que da nombre a este observatorio, Calar Alto. Un centro extensamente conocido entre la comunidad de aficionados a la astronomía y la astrofotografía. Sus siglas son CAHA y está dentro del programa de la UE H2020.
¿Qué es CAHA?
CAHA son las siglas que dan nombre al observatorio más grande de Europa: observatorio astronómico de Calar Alto. Pero su nombre no siempre ha sido el mismo, aunque sí sus siglas. En 1973 se llega a un acuerdo entre España y Alemania para la construcción y uso de este observatorio, por aquel entonces y hasta 2019, el CAHA (Centro Astronómico Hispano-Alemán) cedía tan solo un 10% del tiempo de observación a los astrónomos españoles, cosa que cambió en 2005, cuando se alcanzó un acuerdo para repartir este tiempo en una proporción equitativa del 50-50.
Así, se llegó a un acuerdo entre el Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía – CSIC en Granada y el Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie en Heidelberg. Un acuerdo que duró 14 años hasta que definitivamente la institución alemana saldría del acuerdo, accediendo así al CAHA la Junta de Andalucía. Es así como nace el CAHA, Centro Astronómico Hispano en Andalucía.
¿Se puede visitar el Centro Astronómico de Calar Alto?
La visita a la meseta es libre, 100% gratis. Pero ojo, he dicho a la meseta, es decir, puedes visitar las instalaciones por fuera, sin guía, hacer noche y sesión de astrofotografía, pero… ¿Y si quiero visitar los telescopios o el centro de visitas?
Pues no pasa nada, porque se puede.
¿Dónde reservar visitas al Centro Astronómico Calar Alto?
Las visitas se reservan a través del sitio web Azimuth Spain donde encontraréis toda una oferta de Turismo Astronómico. ¿Qué opciones hay?
- Ventana al Universo: El Observatorio de Calar Alto y Azimuth te ofrecen la oportunidad única y excepcional en Europa de utilizar en visual el telescopio de investigación profesional de 1.23m del Observatorio. Con un precio único de 125€/persona y una duración de 5 horas.
- La noche de la Luna: este pack ofrece observación a nuestro satélite con un telescopio de investigación profesional de 1.23m. Con un precio único 30€/persona y una duración de 3 horas.
- Descubre el cielo de Calar Alto: si lo que realmente es conocer el cielo que existe sobre el observatorio este es tu plan. ¡Pero ojo! Este paquete no ofrece visitas a los telescopios por interrumpir la actividad científica de los astrónomos profesionales y, además, tiene un mínimo de edad de 6 años. Precio único de 36€ euros por persona y un mínimo de 10 personas por grupo. La duración de esta actividad es de 3 horas.
